Not sure how it works in GIMP. But it can be done in Photoshop.

It's not impossible tim-tams. I can make templates in which "curved text can be edited AFTER it's curved"

In Photoshop essentially what I've done is created an elliptical path. Then added the text around the path so it wraps around the interior of the coin.

Wouldn't it be easier to simply use a Vector-Image editing program such as Illustrator(expensive) or Inkscape(free)?
