Hey guys, ripper234 asked me to post this topic. Wanted to get everyone's opinion on Mastercoin getting its own forums.

My view is that it would be good for better coordination among the Mastercoin group, without flooding the Project Development forum (which may be the case if we undertake a community PR movement to the awesome extent that Peercoin, for example, has, where they have a separate activist section even, with plenty of traffic - http://peercointalk.org/). However, I can understand the view of some that, while that makes sense, it's a bit premature at this point.

Based off of what folks think, we can make the best decision for both the Mastercoin and Bitcoin communities. Thanks!

No, it isolates mastercoin from bitcoin, perhaps contact theymos and ask if we can have a mastercoin section on bitcoin talk

The user base is still too small, and potential user may choose to ignore the link point to a new forum, or at least more reluctant to post because of the trouble of registering another account.

I prefer to have a sub board in bitcointalk.

For everyday use I think it would be best to stay here at Bitcointalk.

But I would like to have a dedicated forum for backup purposes. Bitcointalk might be down again for some days (we've seen this already) and communication will come to a halt then. We could switch over to the Mastercoin forum then.

I think a Sub Board would be best. It would keep the community here, make it easier to follow developments, and organize existing sub threads a little.

I think we are alright at the time.
It's bit to early - if the new forum's half-empty, it's even worse. Plus, being here attracts oldtimers from bitcoin community.

Bitcoin is physical.

I would prefer to stay here.

the community is good here, and while I have the advantage of using hootsuite, I know most people hate to skip from forum to forum.

plus i am sure theymos doesn't mind the extra traffic  he monetizes  Grin

This is the default destination for everything related to crypto currencies (just look at LTC forums traffic for example).

So +1 for a dedicated sub-board so it could be easier to find MSC related topics.

I accidentally clicked option 1 and later noticed that I'd rather have option 5 Roll Eyes

So, -1 for option 1, +1 for option 5 Grin

BTW, I don't seem to find a request for a Mastercoin-subforum here at bitcointalk.org in Meta.
Hasn't this ever been asked before? Huh

I really want our own subforum here. We're way to integrated with bitcoin to have our own forum, IMHO

Yeah, +1 to that. That would be great. May be a bit tough to get, given their stance on breaking up the altcoin forums so it's not such a mess (i.e. "no"). Worth a try though. Smiley

I have read enough about it...

You are using the block chain as infrastructure - not as money - by using some non-fungibility features of BTC. It is like any random software running on Windows demanding it's own subforum on the Microsoft support forums or websites chatting away in Apache mailing lists.

MSC could work with different infrastructure as well (it might not be that secure and harder to obtain for bitcoiners...) while bitcoin can not, as it IS the block chain. Most projects in the altcoin forum differ from Bitcoin in less than 1% of their code if even - they are far more integrated and invested in bitcoin than MSC is (which for example would work just as fine on Ripple or OpenTransactions as infrastructure).

Your argument is bad and you should feel bad Grin

No, seriously, this is the old librarian's problem, where should I put a book about "cooking with physics"? Cook book or Physics?

You're absolutely right that Mastercoin is not an Altcoin in the traditional sense.
On the other hand, it's also not exactly Bitcoin.

Look at it from the perspective of the average user of bitcointalk.org.
He (or she) is probably interested in reading about Bitcoin. Period.
Right now he's overwhelmed by the abundance of info on Bitcoin itself, all the nifty little gadgets, services, gory technical details, political discussion about it.
And that's when you throw something like "Mastercoin" at him. He won't understand it, he won't want to hear about it, he won't be interested at all. And he's absolutely right in not wanting to read about Mastercoin, I mean, why would he?

Some people might be aware that I personally am a (cautious) supporter of the Mastercoin project, and even I find myself thinking "not another Mastercoin thread Roll Eyes" at times.

I think the Mastercoin supporters should accept the fact that the majority of bitcointalk.org readers don't want to hear about it, and that it's their absolute right not to have to. So, off to a forum section that can be easily ignored it is for us!

In lack of a better alternative, and seriously, not having the number of users right now to request a new top-level-forum, the most pragmatic solution is the Altcoin forum.

Yeah, well, I'm gonna go build my own blockchain. With blackjack and hookers! In fact forget the blockchain.

I think a child board within project developments is the best option. This isn't another alt currency. It is actually something that progresses bitcoin and is a huge promoter of projects. I think that's a fair spot to put it and it leaves space for more child boards dedicated to colored coins and bitshares. I think all these projects are pretty important and deserve a place here.
