What's up with the banning idea? You're anarcho capitalists, right? Let the market handle it. Buy them out.  Grin
I'm sure if the market is free enough problems will solve themselves.  Kiss

Thinking of this thread in that way, would it be okay for someone to have some kind of Anti-Jew movement for Bitcoin on the forums protected by their free speech?
It very well might be okay, as long as it's on-topic and not illegal (i.e. calling for murder). That said, if I saw something like that, I'd at least pass it up to theymos for additional review. (There's an unofficial rule to remove anything that makes the forum look bad, but it's discouraged for normal mods to enforce that)

It depends on who posts it and how well-argued the post is. A topic like that would be a strong indicator that the poster is here just to troll and make the community look bad. The poster would probably be banned, and the topic might be removed. However, all legal discussion is allowed from non-trolls.

Insults also raise a user's "troll score", though they are likewise allowed for non-trolls when on-topic.

Hey, it could happen.

Easily too.

You want everyone to use that 'report to moderator' button, I assure you it will be used.

I fucking loooooooooooove trolls, but a good intelligent troll that can fuck with people.  The ones that are "you are a fookin morran duchhe" can be done away with easily, and should be.

Opinions should not be censored when in discussion on the topic of Bitcoin.  Not against members of the forum at all.  Scammers or not, no one needs to be name called on the god damn internet.  Seriously, what the fuck.  Damn children!

My suggestion, tattle telling Smiley

(Irony of last sentence on purpose, makes this post no less true)

This is a bad idea, and bad ideas deserve to be insulted.

Therefore, if you ban insults, bad ideas will drown out the good ones.

I will say though, cultural, social, and religious context type humor that is directed at no specific person, but rather groups..   wouldn't that already be something not showing up here.  Isn't that some kind of hate speech depending on the group?

If hate speech does or does not work for groups, why or why not the same for individuals protection?   Insulting directly is the ultimate hate speech.

So an Irishman walks OUT of a pub....

*gasp* the hate speech!

Believe it or not, I have actually been banned from a forum for that joke (along with all the "dead-baby" cracks)

I have had associates online thrown out for less.   Is it the fault of California that there is a large population of Mexican people.

I think there is a big line between defining races and hate speech though lol.

I am super satisfied with this.  Though it is unsaid, built up retarded insults do = ban.  It's all I want to know.  I guess now it's effort on my part if it invades the threads I am reading.

can we see the score sheet?

with a few hours of work I could bait every troll in this place.
I'm a Master Baiter. xD

I've already identified at least a dozen in the past 2 days.
All I have to do is put the screws to them.

Some are long trollers, those are the hard ones, those guys always operate just below the threshold.
I know how these guys think, how they move, they work on the premise of sinking ships, through sheer determination, all the while greatly enjoying what they are able to get away with and what they cause. they always have the last laugh, not only because they get to watch the show they direct but also because they just don't stop until everyone is gone.

I have a very distinct method on how to ghost them.

Off-topic: What's the joke about "So an Irishman walks OUT of a pub" ? Based on Bitcoin Porn's reference to Mexicans, is "OUT" a nasty insult in the Mexican language?

Irish are all slavering drunks of course.

Many jokes start with "so a [insert type here] walks into a pub..."
