Saw him talking about it this morning on CNBC.  Not totally surprised, as Branson has always been one of the more daring visionaries in the business world, but definitely awesome!

My biggest concern for BTC is that it won't become widely accepted, and will remain a speculative investment/asset/whatever it currently is as opposed to evolving into a full fledged currency which actually assumes the role of "money" in the Austrian Economics sense.  We need to really push hard for more vendors to accept as a form of payment, but, more than that, we need to encourage everyone to spend some of their stash.  The more people we have spending BTC and using it as a form of money, the better our chances of it truly taking over the world are.

lol - He's building the biggest, baddest nerd attraction ever - and he's going to use it to come after your coin.

That's only fair.  The engineering firm that writes my paycheck is working on the spaceport design, so I'm buying coin with Richard's money.  Cheesy

Touché!  Currently, I am not selling anything, but that isn't to say I am not trying to make that happen.  I've been involved in spreading the word, and am currently in talks to set up a bitcoin atm in my area.  I'd love to eventually get to a point where I am selling something tangible for coins, but, alas, I am currently just another corporate slave grinding away for my paycheck (although, I do work for a company I enjoy).

My mother is very involved with a few philanthropic organizations as a board member.  I have leveraged her position with a few of these groups, and convinced her to set up BTC donations for a couple of the groups she works with.  So...there is that, and they've actually collected a few donations in BTC (and not from just me).

What are you selling?

lol - a few minutes in sub orbital weightlessness (comparable to the first flights of Yuri Gagarin and Alan Shepard) is hardly the moon, but it is cool.  Not worth a quarter mil to most, but the price will eventually drop if you can stand not being one of the first in line.

Sure, I know, but who know what are Branson's (or others) plans in the, maybe not so far, future?

He has a lot of clout, happens to be one of the richest men in the world, is a knight, and has been wildly successful in his business ventures.  He is a very well known individual, and maintains a public presence.  On top of that, Virgin is an extremely large and mainstream corporation.  All those things combined = awesome for BTC.
