UPDATE Nov. 25: Website Live: http://Coinsteading.com

UPDATE Nov. 24: The Coinsteading Project Phase - Location Choice / Options

Current Options On The Table:
Chile
Costa Rica
Panama
Ecuador

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
We are currently examining various places around the planet to set-up a small bitcoin/crypto-currency startup village.

This will be an alternative-energy (e.g. solar / wind) powered setup that will included rented (for bitcoin) living spaces and co-working spaces with high-speed internet access.

(Initial building designs are being based around semi-permanent yurt structures and cargo-container conversions.)

The concept is being designed specifically for people who want to temporarily live/work in a environment using bitcoin and other crypto-currencies and those developing related products, services, software and platforms.

We're currently open to recommendations for countries / locations that are:

  • Easy and enjoyable for foreigners to visit / work in.
  • Good internet.
  • Rentable / purchasable land.
  • Bitcoin/Crypto-currency friendly regulatory environment.
  • Rural or semi-rural areas that are close to small to medium sized urban centers. (We want to be able to expand bitcoin acceptance into the community we set up near as well.)
  • Moderate To Tropical Climate (e.g. no long winters)

Of course, we have some places in mind already, but thought we'd reach out to the bitcoin community for some more ideas and feedback.

Thanks in advance!

Chile for sure. It has all the points you requested plus quite a lot of renewable energy sources. If you setup your operations on the right place, you can run fully off grid as the sun will power your hashing on the day and the strong wind will do that on the night. Internet is not a problem nor government or weather. A win-win.

Thank you for your feedback!

We've had Chile on the hotlist - good to hear it was the first to be mentioned here.

We are especially encouraged by the ease of setting up companies, getting work visas and employing foreigners there, and it seems to be becoming a great hub for Startups, especially in and around Santiago. That it was Doug Casey's pick for the "Galt's Gulch" project was a positive sign too. (Although our project will be much smaller and is designed for bootstrappers, startups and "regular" people who want to get involved.)

Much appreciated!

Sincerely,
JB Allen

Currently, we are based in Bali, Indonesia where we've successfully tested out a bitcoin business model with local products. (see http://RoastStation.com) That said, Indonesia has some serious limitations when it comes to setting up a business, renting land, etc... We've been here a year and are pretty sure this is NOT the right place to scale into the small crypto-currency lifestyle zone we are planning.

Latin and South America locations such as the ones we've updated our initial post above with are being examined and we are reaching out to folks in those areas. Of course, we'd be very happy to connect with anyone living in these places who are interested in bitcoin, tech-startups, liberty and sustainable living.

More soon,
JB Allen
