New to bitcoining but want to buy direct

Hi,

I'm new to bitcoining but I want to buy direct.  The easiest way for me to transfer funds would be paypal, but I hear that
is untrusted.  I am willing to do escrow and pay for it even to establish my good reputation.

Are there other ways I can pay online?  I'm a US citizen living abroad in Asia.  I can also do wire transfers.
