You know, someone should really make a competitor to wikipedia.org that takes bitcoin donations if they're not going to take 'em.

Why are people so eager to donate their bitcoins to wikipedia?

I'm sure they'll take them at some point in the future, but then people will probably ask why they're not accepting Litecoins or bbqcoins or whatever.

well they woudln't want wikipedia to go away. and accepting bitcoin probably makes donating to them 5x more likely at least

If you really want to donate why don't you just exchange your bitcoins to USD and give them.
It will save some tax too.

Exactly, there's lots of people with large amounts of money in bitcoin, and some of them like wikipedia and would like to donate to it.

Easy as that.
Bitcoin Core developer [PGP] Warning: For most, coin loss is a larger risk than coin theft. A disk can die any time. Regularly back up your wallet through File → Backup Wallet to an external storage or the (encrypted!) cloud. Use a separate offline wallet for storing larger amounts.
