why don't you try to recover it?

even if not by yourself, there're experts out there who might be able to recover it.

There're many ways to recover stuff from failed hdd's.

Sorry for your loss. How many coins were on it? Keep the hard drive.  Recovery by a specialist might be profitable,  if not now, probably later,  as the coin value rises even more.

Seriously, OP, there are services that can help you.  What have you tried so far.

Bitcoin Fact: the price of bitcoin will not be greater than $70k for more than 25 consecutive days at any point in the rest of recorded human history.

Like many stated here, you still have hope i strongly suggest taking it to a professional recovery service especially if it's a large amount. I worked as a Tech for a while and i've seen wonders with hard drive data recovery.

This could be Bitcoiners that sell out make a good profit see price continue to rise, somewhere after anger and denial is roaming the forum full of bitter small minded sarcasm and regrets. Might be wrong of course  Grin

High end data recovery companies are very good at doing what they do, here's a presentation where some advanced techniques such as replacing the disk stack in to a new drive and replacing boards while swapping proms are described. If you are in to the thousands of dollars lost, it is something to consider.

(sorry, it's part one of six)

Even if the hard drive is physically in pieces, it isn't necessarily impossible to recover the wallet.

If you had more than 1 BTC, I'd invest money in a reputable data recovery company like others are suggesting. They will go as far as transplanting the platters into an identical working hard drive to recover the data, but mind you this isn't cheap. Depending on how bricked the hard drive is will influence the cost of recovery and whether or not recovering your wallet is worth it for you.

If its less than 1 BTC, you might try tricks such as the freezer method to see if you can revive the drive long enough to pull the wallet. Assuming the failure is hardware related and not partition corruption.

One word of warning, if the amount is significant, don't risk any diy methods or unreputable recovery services as they can destroy the data in the process.

What kind of noise does the drive make when it is turned on?
