So does anyone have an explanation of why did the price offset between mtgox and bitstamp disapear so suddenly?

Did mtgox process withdraws now?
The cost of mediation increases transaction costs, limiting the
minimum practical transaction size and cutting off the possibility for small casual transactions

Bitstamp had some technical issues resulting in deposits being delayed and so forth. Caused a run of buy orders.

Volume differential has shrunk
