I am new to mining. I started cudeminer like this:
$ cudaminer -H 1 -o stratum+tcp://pool1.us.multipool.us:7777 -u <username> -p <password>

Result:
[2013-11-24 00:21:03] 1 miner threads started, using 'scrypt' algorithm.
[2013-11-24 00:21:03] Starting Stratum on stratum+tcp://pool1.us.multipool.us:7777
[2013-11-24 00:21:14] Stratum connection failed: Couldn't resolve host 'pool1.us.multipool.us
[2013-11-24 00:21:14] ...retry after 15 seconds
[2013-11-24 00:21:29] Stratum authentication failed
[2013-11-24 00:21:29] ...retry after 15 seconds

But if I do:
$ nslookup pool1.us.multipool.us
Non-authoritative answer:
Server:  homeportal
Address:  192.168.1.254

Name:    pool1.us.multipool.us
Addresses:  162.243.142.31
          162.243.148.179

Why can't cudaminer resolve the host?

UPDATE:

I'm having the same problem with pooler miner:
$ minerd -o stratum+tcp://pool1.us.multipool.us:7777 -u <username> -p <password>
[2013-11-24 00:52:14] Binding thread 0 to cpu 0

it isn't the same problem in the second case. You've got a wrong username / password set for the worker.

Also note the extra ' character in the "couldn't resolve host" error message of cudaminer. That character isn't there in pooler cpuminer. Since both use the same stratum code I think the ' is already present in your .bat file to launch cudaminer.

Try  port 17777 with http, but I might consider that you should mine specific coin like FTC at port 3337 and trade it for btc on some crypto currency exchanges. like it would be easier to mine FTC than LTC and you can exchange around 20-30 FTC for 1 LTC which gives you faster time to get 1 LTC than mining just LTC or other coins.

If it still is a problem you probably have autenthication problem as for worker you should assign an worker with difficulty 16 and plot in username.workername and password as your login password. Reminded you should use upper case letters on username.

In my case, working setting with cudaminer are:
cudaminer.exe -H 1 -d 0 -i 0 -C2 -l K14x14 -o stratum+tcp://pool1.eu.multipool.us:7777 -O name.of.your.worker:

because multipol does not use passwords, you dont have to write any to commandline
for more instruction read readme file that come with cudaminer.
