I am configuring an instance now, on amazon. I am behind a firewall at work which keeps me from connecting to ypool. Can someone help me out, get this running?

So if you go over your $100 limit do they auto-charge you?

I believe they auto charge you at the end of the month but I'm not 100% sure.

Yes your credit card is billed for whatever you use at the start of the following month. So if you spend 101$, and had a 100$ credit you will get charged 1$. wtf - they just terminated my instance for no reason ?? Why would that be the case ?
yes if the price goes above your limit for even 1 second.. They also used to terminate spot instances if you rebooted them, not sure if that is still happening (i never reboot mine). Best to always setup then create an AMI right away once things are working (and setup to automine), then spot launch the AMIs directly.

Yes it works with existing accounts, but you can only get the 100$ credit once. can I mine litecoins with amazon?
Technically yes, however CPU mining litecoin, even at this scale, wouldn't be that profitable imo. Better to save the credit for the next CPU coin. There are GPU instances available but they are slow (Nvidia) and very costly.

Can you also comfirm that there are only charges for the spot instances ? (No data xfer charges or other misc charges)?
You will be charged for data transfer, storage (each instance has a virtual hard drive and yes you are charged for that), etc. Hopefully it won't add up to much. EDIT: Apparently there is some storage and transfer usage allowed under the free tier. I don't know the limits.

Has anyone taken a look at profitability using this method at the current difficulty?
It cost me about $160 to mine about 30 protoshares using 40 instances with the described method. I think it was worth it.

Is that $160 after 100 credit or before? 30 PTS * 0.009 * 800 = $216

Has to be before. I spent $100 (no credit) playing with this and I got about 24 PTS

I really do hope protoshares builds some more momentum. Its hard seeing all the nonsense on BTC-e with all the alts rising dramatically.

Have you done that consistently without problems? I tried twice, once worked, the other one sell got cancelled even though the bitcoin price went up (go figure).

Its okay anyways, using a skrill credit card that has just a couple of dollars, so they wont get any $400 from me ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) And that is exactly why they will put a stop to this one of these days. You screwed up, you owe for what you agreed to. ![Roll Eyes](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/rolleyes.gif) I know i screwed up, but what do you expect from me? Man im 20years old and have no job and no income, all I do is being active here trying to find stuff at and just trying to survive. Where would i get $400? It will come back to me some day and then I will pay. But as of now i would prefer if they blocked my account and sent me a bill that I can pay for later. I think it's very interesting that someone by your same name is making a killing on ypool. Each block a "Hampuz" is getting ~.46 to ~.60 of the block. Blocks come every 10 minutes. Thats a lot of PTS. I know how much I'm paying to mine a comparable amount via EC2 and it's hundreds a day. I seriously hope you don't think its okay to steal that kind of cash and coin, increase the difficulty, and decrease the profitability for everyone elsel. You are throwing at least 120 * 32 Xeon cores at mining at zero expense. It's a shame no one called you out earlier. What you are doing is unethical. I apologize for calling you out if its a different Hampuz.

+1 YSVG1900 is a great developer who puts a lot of effort into developing software. He also spends a lot of time talking to users on ypool chat trying to help them with problems they might have.
