Amount of dollars needed to start mining some altcoins

I have been doing some research of recent on how to mine some new coins like graft but I don't know how to start. I will like you to help explain with some material on how to start and tools need. I have no idea on how this work and I need you to see me as a newbie on this. Please your explanation will be of a great help to me.

Thank you very much for responding to my thread. Please how do I start is my major problem. If I have around $1,000 can I started mining some altcoins with profit. I do really will appreciate your response as I have also gone through those links you posted and this has help expend my knowledge about mining.
