what miner, pool to choose

Hey,

I'm new here but I read along for months   I bought a system with 2 5870 cards and a single 5830 in used parts.  I know it's a bad time to start mining but my power is for free, so why not give it a shot?  What miner do you advice and on what pool do I get the highest payout?  I read about pool-hopping. Is that easy to setup?  Can I do that with just one pool or do I need 2?  I use Trixx for the GPU's, is there a better tool? 

I know a lot of Bitcoins by reading, bought a lot of them when prices where low and think it could be a nice investment.

GUIMiner is a very popular miner to use, If you can set the rig up as a perminant dedicated miner I recommend using BAMT it is a Linux based all in one miner that runs off of a thumb drive and has very useful features. As for a pool I have to recommend Bitclockers.com

For tune your graphics cards, you have Sapphire Trixx and MSI AfterBurner, two very goods tools.

The 5870's are getting very hot.  86c at 70% fanspeed.  Is that enough or should I increase the fanspeed?

It's too hot (75/80 it's the maximum for keep a clean card). Try to put the fan at 80/85%. You need to reach 75c in best case.

I tried afterburner and trixx and they both tell the cards are running on 950Mhz so combined it is 2850Mhz but when I take a look at guiminer it says 1100Mhz.  What am I doing wrong?

Guiminer says "Mhash/s" and trixx says "Mhz".  Do these two relate?  I read they don't and I hope guiminer is wrong or I am really f*cked on this one.  BTC are now at 8 Dollar and using the difficulty calculator I discovered I only earn 150 Dollar in a month.  That really s*cks.  I don't pay for power but my rig didn't come for free.  I wish I put my money where my mouth is.  On other forums I always told that it would drop, there's no real Bitcoin economy and no future for Bitcoins.  But those guys always told me "yeah, prices will go up, it will be profitable" and I thought "well, I like a gamble, stocks s*ck anyway so maybe it isn't too bad".  I wish I should have listened to myself before putting al the time, effort and money on this.  Any projections how to get out of this with a profit?  Sell the rig and buy Bitcoins while they're low?

dude sorry to tell you but you picked a real bad time to get in to mining. mhash is diferent than mhertz. i dont know why but alot ppl on this forum refer mhash as mhz which is incorrect. mhash = mh/s not mhz to be less confusing. the mhash in guiminer is correct that what you base your calculations on.

the different mhz in trixx is the different speeds you overclock  your card to for instance for my 5830 is @ 975mhz core/ 300mhz mem and does around 300 mh/s

I started with slush, then went to deepbit, now back at slush.

I really like slush's interface, but I'm getting pretty close to calling deepbit a much higher return than slush.
