Can Bitcoin mining rigs be used for mining Peercoins?

I'm new to mining coins, but from what I've read over the last couple of days, it is something I'd like to really get into. I'm currently mining Peercoins and would like to buy a mining rig, but they all seem to be made for mining Bitcoins. Can they also be used for mining Peercoins? If so, what's the best value for money rig to buy?

An alternative would be "Hosted Mining Contracts". I don't exactly know how it works yet, but would this be a better alternative to buying a rig? Also, will this hosted mining work for Peercoins?
