Is it possible to power these things with 12V DC power supply? I am surprised that no one even offers and alternative to the PSU power supply option.

yes but you would spend a more money
im assuming you mean something like a power brick for a laptop

its cheaper and more efficient to buy a cheap ATX PSU and easier to wire
