So  I was in the CBD of a major city today, and walking along in the commercial district, I happened to overhear two "typical" businessmen type discussing BTC.

The conversation went

"it records every transaction and every body can see them"

"Yeah???"

"but no one really know who owns them...."

etc etc

I got the sense that the two financial types investor types, were trying to grapple with something that they couldn't quite grok.

A sort of whats happening?, but no gov backs it...., you can't just make up money, I don't get it?, what does this mean for me?...it worth what $10 Billion? combination of "feel" was going on

It seems financial types who play in the gov fiat are becomeing dimly aware of the straw house built on sand they occupy.

I like to occasionally mention BTC in a conversation

I was paying by visa (I felt dirty/heretical....come on emu save me)

I mention "one day I will pay you with bitcoin....have you heard of it?"

She replied "yes...!"

i don't interact much with the mainstream, and i was just thinking last night how it would be weird to mingle with some "normals" and have a bitcoin conversation and everyone just know what it is.

A bunch of people were talking about it in 2 of my classes today and all week theyve been watching it in my Econ class. People are starting to take notice now that they see it 10x the value it was a couple month ago

Great development. The only way to get bitcoin widely accepted is by spreading the word. Knowledge is money in this case!

Problem is though that everybody I hear about it speaks on it as an investment opportunity. If nobody sees it as something to pay groceries with, the bubble will burst soon enough as it is actually useless.

What I really like about Bitcoin is exactly this sentence: " but no gov backs it...., you can't just make up money, I don't get it?"
-> people start to think about what money is. I come from an libertarian political view and favored private money before I knew about Bitcoin. When I told people (who never discussed with libertarians about this topic, so 99,9% of all) that private money is better they never really got it how this should work.

People start to realize that there can be money which is not provided by the state. Money loses it's status of roads.("but who will build the roads?")

"Morality, it could be argued, represents the way that people would like the world to work - whereas economics represents how it actually does work." Freakonomics

Never heard someone mentioned it around me. When they talked about it on the radio (the first ATM in Vancouver), a guy at my job mentioned it, but the subject of the conversation changed after pretty much 2-3 minutes. Guess everyone who've heard about it wont pay attention to it. Just like i did when i read about it in 2011. My thought then was "-WTF is this shit?".

Sometimes when i walk around in the city i do question myself "I wonder how many people here around me that have heard of BTC and actually uses it". And then i make a guess on every person i see. lol

I get the feeling it's really starting to get in front of people, but if there is a large group that are now being exposed to bitcoin, it may take a year or so before these people really feel conformable using it.

I work at UM hospital in Ann Arbor and I discuss this with my coworkers everyday I'm there. It's usually only bits and pieces at a time since the work environment is fast paced but in the down time, I'm able to give a thorough thesis but it seems it may be a little over their heads. Some tend to think it's a stock or something related at first despite me explaining it's actually a digital currency payment system free of the state. Since I'm dealing with mostly liberals and a handful of conservatives, their big picture in life doesn't usually mentally function w/o the almighty state calling the shots. Perhaps, this is what is holding them back in fully understanding the benefits of it. Likely, this non-state factor is what is puzzling to a lot of people that are hearing about it and curious as to what all the hype is about. This is anarchy on parade after all.

no, btc will be used for high value buys, houses, cars, holidays, and financial settlement and safe havens store of value, money transfer, paying for high value services. That's worth much more than the groceries, coffee etc transactions, eg there was a $150 Million worth of BTC moved the other. How can you do that in any other financial system for cash. Any user has this power

Hopefully it will be used for everyday payments to in a couple of years, otherwise the everyday user would not have any real use of it!

every days users will use it. It will be like an investment / store of value, that you can immediately sell or use if you choose, and how a coin like EMU will solve the every day use

What I find interesting is that everyone who I have met that has heard of it, just puppet's someone else's opinion, without understanding it.  Like they'll call it a ponzi, they'll p raise it, but they still don' tknow much about it.  Soon t hough the information will get out there.

I guess.  Although that argument is easily deflated.  It's amazing how people get all t heir ideas from television.  I watch maybe 1 hour of television per week, MAX.  Not because I don't like TV, but because anything worth watching on TV, can be downloaded online, without commercials.
