Who cares? Sooner or later they'll get their AAA+ rating back, because they're TBTF.

There's actually no such thing as a AAA+ rating.  It's just AAA.

ouch
will be likely wild markets open on sunday/monday

lets see if bitcoins remain stable or rise

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-08-06/u-s-credit-rating-cut-by-s-p-for-first-time-on-deficit-reduction-accord.html

Quote
Standard & Poor’s downgraded the U.S.’s AAA credit rating for the first time, slamming the nation’s political process and criticizing lawmakers for failing to cut spending enough to reduce record budget deficits.

S&P lowered the U.S. one level to AA+ while keeping the outlook at “negative” as it becomes less confident Congress will end Bush-era tax cuts or tackle entitlements. The rating may be cut to AA within two years if spending reductions are lower than agreed to, interest rates rise or “new fiscal pressures” result in higher general government debt, the New York-based firm said yesterday.

Most likely through dropping US$ exchange rates... once SEPA trades start working again on MtGox, maybe sooner through Asian markets.

Perhaps Chinese realizing now it'd be good to finally get into bitcoins after all? Same thing applies to mainstream US Americans. Grin

This isn't news. We've been a AA country for quite awhile. The rating agency means squat. The market has known the truth.

Yea bro that's why the Dow fell 800 points in the last two days when the first downgrade news broke; obviously the downgrade was already priced in.  Roll Eyes

That's not to say there weren't other declines.

I can never tell if you just have zero knowledge about anything (especially economics), or if you have some Atlas-post-generating program that just strings words together.

The Stock Market is a completely rigged game.  All they need to do is push a few buttons and stocks will rise or fall.

That has nothing to do with the point I made.

Also, if it was that rigged then Goldman wouldn't pay analyts and traders hundreds of thousands of dollars per year.  They'd just have one guy at a terminal generating them infinite money.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that the DJI doesn't have up and down buttons to influence public opinion. This isn't mtgox we're talking about.
