Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

Certainly not dead - it hasn't even started to fall in value yet. Some people in this thread are adamant that it will still cause the death of Bitcoin, so make of that what you will.

Why do you ask if it's dead? It's currently at an all-time high.
