price hit 370 yuan highest which eauals 39£ value in chinese market. as the bitcoin's price touch the highest point, lots of money flows out and people start to move their sight to altcoins. and lots of fresher want a huge amount coins, so litecoin is best way!

I am interested in buying, however:

Current btc-e price is $20.

So 20 / 1.6 x 1000 = £12,000

Isn't £14k a bit much?

the price is for uk buyers, you could check the price on bitbargain and other ebay seller, my price is the most cheap
