According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

Remember guys, if bitcoin goes mainstream and your investment makes you rich ... these are the same people who will tell you how "lucky" you are.

If that happens you won't care about what they say for you.

The peer pressure is too great!

Must retain balls of steel!

I told them I already cashed out of USD, EUR, etc. into BTC.

Then they mentioned some crap about diversifying which I countered with why would I want to pay about 40% in taxes just to diversify into something that can more easily be seized, is not limited in amount, has a lower return, etc.?

Of course, this is from someone who does not understand the tech. I think Bitcoin has outgrown any of its natural predators and is pretty much unstoppable from a tech standpoint now. Consequently, a lot of the risk and uncertainty is gone. This will allow Bitcoin to become its destiny.

And if just 1% of Chinese move a mere $20 into Bitcoin then the price will go to at least $10,000. And what is everyone starting to talk about over the holidays, etc.? Bitcoin is going viral. Just strap in and hold on for the longest time.

Plus, why take advice from them? They were wrong. And their advice could be bias; they may want to acquire cheap bitcoins.

They all tell me I should sell..

They just dont know much about it..  I keep replying that I still buy as I can, and they should too..

That's the same story all over since BTC were @ 10$..

No one bought, and they keep saying I should sell.. They just dont know much about BTC.

Mine wont shut up...

I try explaining what bitcoin is, they think it's a "scam' lol.  I don't get how that's possible when the currency is decentralized.
Anyways, I told them to buy a couple like me when the price was at $120 USD, and of course they changed the subject in like, 2 seconds.

That's it, really.

They think it's a scam because of the way it's sold/described to them. To be honest, it usually does sound like a ponzi/pyramid scheme and does sound too good to be true, and if something sounds too good to be true, then it probably is. I ask them if they think trading fiat money or buying shares is a scam, and just tell them I've made nearly 10 times my money and to do a bit of research and keep an eye on the markets.

It's funny how bitcoin changes your perception of what it means to "cash out."  Cash out to what??

Cash out to cash. Fiat. I mean, I doubt a Ferrari garage is gonna accept BTC, but they'll happily take cold, hard cash.

The ones telling to cash out don't understand bitcoin.

This is not a stock to get in and out and be done with it.

Sure it can go to $10, but if bitcoin keeps spreading like it is doing now and is a common form of payment in 5-10 years then you have to buy bitcoin again anyway, at some point!

-->>> So only sell all of your coins if you know for sure that you will never buy any again. Or if you are sure you will be able to buy much lower.

This is happening to me as we speak... i was trying really hard to persuade them to risk some pocket money to buy btc back in 2011-12. Got tired trying and just stopped talking about it. Now they tell me that i am lucky bustard.

Doh, it's hard to understand people : )

I can say now people are actually listening and trying to understand bitcoin now, rather than just dismissing it as a pyramid or ponzi sceme.
ive hooked up with friends and family, with small amounts to get their interest.

i guess its all about delivery.

I don't discuss whether I have any or not, just tech.

Mine wont shut up...
Smart,I also refuse to tell friends and it has proven invaluable.

I have told family though and was trying to get them in 2 years ago but that went absolutely nowhere but they are actually happy it all worked out and wonder more about it now.

If you don't know what bitcoin is, it's not weird for people to advise you to convert the internet magic money to "real" money  Tongue

I had several wealthy friends tell me to cash out at 200 in April.   It was painful to watch the bubble slowly subside to $100 but I held.

I have learned that if you truly believe in something just stick with it.   Don't let the naysayers or doom and gloom types stop you.

No matter where you go, there you are.

I really hate such 'friends', frankly I think it's assholish and I disconnect from them.

A friend should support you, help you, not work against you and then when you do succeed, dismiss it with 'lucky'. It angers me.

After many years of suffering I think I understand people finally, there are just a lot of assholes and bitches, especially among 'family', replace them with nice people and your life greatly improves!  Cool

My friends either hold (keyword!) btc, or dont and ask me, "how do you feel? are you nervous?" the weird part for me is that every day I feel less nervous, even during these nervewracking quick little selloff blips.

In 2011 I explained to my dad why I have a super noisy computer running in my garage, and why bitcoin is a superior form of transaction. He didnt even remember the name of the tech. Last week he asked me "do you know about this bitcoin thing?" because he heard about it on cnbc. I told him yeah, that "computer" in the garage is making me more money than my job is. Then he's all  Shocked
