You can't use a laptop to mine, no matter how powerful. In a similar vein, no GPU or CPU is powerful enough to mine Bitcoin either. If you're serious about mining, read up on ASICS and their profitability, specifically with your electricity costs among other factors using a tool like this.

No, don't try mine it with low spec hardware. Especially, you use your CPU (looks like, because you don't mention your GPU). Don't try it, why?
1. It is not profitable, trust me.
2. It will damaging your hardware.

If you want to mine, make sure you have a good hardware. GPU is the most popular now, but you need a lot GPU to get profit. You can buy ASIC if you want such as antminer.

But, if you just want to try, you can use Minergate, its easy to use or you can use nicehash (tho, i don't know if they're support with mac or not).

You can't use any laptop for mining bitcoin. Nowadays mining requires significant investments in equipment, associated costs for electricity, cooling etc. In addition, the mine on a single video card or hardware miner is simply not commercially profitable due to the high complexity. Therefore, for effective operation, a cluster of devices is required - a "farm" of several video cards or special miners. On average, it is profitable to use 4-5 powerful video cards

You might be able to use it to mine altcoins--but not the good ones. Apple recently added support for external gpu's, which in your case might be a good investment. That said, have you looked into electricity costs in your area? That will be the biggest factor working against you, you'll need to do the math and figure out if your costs will undermine your profitability.

I would suggest you to use your laptop to perform bounties and airdrops. In that case it saves you the life of your laptop and it rewards so much better than mining using it. Even using low specs personal computer do not result in good rewards for mining at my end. But bounties are different story

Go, buy an Antminer S9 and try your luck mining bitcoins as you won't be getting even 50k satoshis mining through your machine. But hey, I've got one more thing here for you - mine cryptonight coins. These coins were made with the purpose to let all such small machines take the power and that centralization is removed out of the game but even for such algorithm, ASICs were started to be built to ruin it for the average mining Joe. But then, the Monero team decided to make this algorithm completely ASIC-resistant so that the power still remains in the hands of small level miners. You may try your hands on such coins which have cryptonight algorithm (no profits guaranteed though). Take my suggestion with a pinch of salt and do your own due diligence before mining them.

Technically you can use your laptop to mine, but chances are you're going to mine next to nothing. Not to mention you're laptop's going to die down significantly faster when running such CPU and GPU intensive programs.

You want profit? Buy an ASIC miner. Though you could also try GPU mining, but not with bitcoin though. Do your research on what other coins are best to mine with GPUs.

You do not want to mine bitcoin, that will get will make you a huge loss on electric and hardware ware and tear. You need to do research and mine an ASIC resistant coin that works best with your hardware and then sell and convert that into bitcoin.

Using a laptop to mine Bitcoin is useless.. better invest in mining hardware or buy it directly.

Also tried to mine bitcoin using a laptop and this was way back 2013, and if at that time it was not advisable, what more now that there are dedicated chips for mining?

Better to trade bitcoin than investing on hardware since there's too much competition on mining and you will be competing with huge companies who have higher computing power than you.

I think newcomers should have their own analysis and techniques, if you do not understand the technique then most likely your assets will be lost if not careful. Little suggestions for beginners bitcoin You should always be vigilant with the assets you have and should be safe with various security.
