In my opinion, it could easily happen. Hopefully, the increase will reflect a stable, fair market price and encourage businesses and trade to adopt bitcoin as a medium of exchange, rather than volatile speculation or pressure from nefarious influences (for example, Cryptolocker).

Unless the bitcoin killer--that is, the money that makes bitcoin obsolete and irrelevant--occurs within this decade, I expect the price to climb to insane levels, taking into account the exponentially increasing popularity of this software (i.e. more wealth being denoted with bitcoin) coupled with the USD's hyperinflation to the tune of 1 trillion indebted annually.

Since all fiat currencies go to zero...the only thing that could stop Bitcoin from hitting $10k is Bitcoin.

On Christmas and new year eve maybe hit even more than 10k , but it may fall in first quarter of 2014

I'm going to say that'll happen after a very long period of time after Bitcoin overcomes the hurdles of wallet security for non savvy users and mass adoption. Personally, I think it might be like 6-7 years at best, but hopefully I'm still there to see it.

Well to vanish would be hard as so many top dev guys from around the world are gonna make sure that won't happen. As value increases the best can be paid for,no austerity here!

Here's my take:

Look at the exchanges we use to trade stocks.

Now look at crypto currency exchanges.

Notice the difference? Would lag and downtime be acceptable?

I think in the next 5 years etrade or tdameritrade will get into cryptos. when that happens and everyone is talking about crypto coins like the they did back in 1999 pre-internet bubble days...it will go ballistic as everyone will be wanting to invest in it.

Could very easily go 100k when that happens.

I think it will go 5-10k in 2014 before any of that happens as more people find out about it and start buying. That's not to say there won't be boom or bust cycles...but the long trend is always up.

This can be achieved easily. It's allready above 1000$ as we speak.  The more exposure bitcoin gets in the news the more people are intested in buying them, which will increase in the long run.

I agree adoption is key. Forecasting of adoption rate might tell a lot about future value of BTC.
