Namecoins are very promising from their (yet) mostly unused potential.  Though they spiked in price recently, so it may be that they get a little cheaper over time; not sure, though.  That being said, I think you should keep most money in BTC.  And possibly buy in smaller chunks rather than all at once (no matter which currency you decide upon).

I would go for bitcoins or litecoins if you don't want to risk too much. They are more stable than alternative cryptocoins. These coins have some reputation.

Alternative cryptocoins on the other hand can make weird ups and downs. This could end up terrible bad or very good for your money. It's just pump and dump right now for these coins.

I would go for Feathercoins, personally. They're pretty cheap at the moment and the potential for profit is huge. I expect big things from them in the near future.
