yes, my old rig have 5 cards, i thank 7 are the same
pre-caution: you need some pcie1x extensions and pcie1x-16x extensions(WITH MOLEX)
otherwise, your mb 5volts pcb trace will overcurrent and burnt

The motherboard you picked is an excellent choice for GPU mining. Running 7 cards, your biggest challenge is going to be power. The 280x runs at ~250watts when undervolted properly, so 7x250=1750 watts. Add another 200 watts for system overhead and you're at almost 2,000 watts. If you're on a 110v 15a home circuit, you're going to be flipping switches or blowing fuses. If you're on a 20 or 30 amp, you should be fine. You might find additional helpful information in the 6 GPU guide: http://www.coinminingrigs.com/how-to-build-a-6-gpu-mining-rig/

Yes, im from europe so isnt a problem for me. I'm planing to power this rig with 2 psu of 1100w but i dont know what to do with the pci-e riser. i think that to avoid problems i will buy all the risers powered with molex

if you leave out the molex, there's a chance that the riser will burn due to too high current..

It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.

Why would you power the card from your motherboard?

Wouldn't you use the separate connector on the card?

Cards can pull power from the PCIe connectors as well as up to 75W from the PCIe bus.  This is fine with 1 card.  With 5+ cards the drain on certain boards can burn out components.

The MSI-z77a-G45 supports 5 cards out of the box and 6 cards max if you do a presence pin short on pci slot number 5.  It will not run 7 cards.  You need the GD65 to run 7 cards.  This info is personally confirmed by me and many others on here.  Do a search in the forum to find out how to do the pin short so you can at least run 6 cards.

On that note the G45 is a steal at $80, or even $125.  You'll pay 160ish for the GD65 only to get 1 more usable slot.  Some people really need that 7th slot to maximize physical space efficiency, while others just build more rigs.

You'll want to get 2 or 3 24cm riser cables to run the outter cards if you're going to run 6 or 7 cards so you can spread them all apart a fair distance.  Too close together and they get hotter.  The standard 19cm cables will do fine for the rest of the cards.

You only need 1x risers, and YES you WILL want them powered.  Either do it yourself or buy them.  If you are running more than 4 "big" cards on a mobo, the cables must be powered or you will eventually fry your mobo from too much load.

The motherboard must have 7 slots to connect them to even if they are pci X16 or x8.You will surely need extensions to connect all of them properly and also multiple power supply units.

Did anyone give a try to supermicro x9drx?
It has 11 pcie slots and is known to be working fine with at least 18 gpus. (nvidia cards)
