Hi folks,

Last Thursday, the Simon Fraser Bitcoin Club from beautiful Vancouver, Canada (home to the world's first BTC ATM) held an event called "The Power of Bitcoin". Close to 100 people attended.

At the end of that event, close to $1,500 CAD in bitcoins was donated to Schools Building Schools at what was the world's first live/in-person Bitcoin fundraiser.

Schools Building Schools, a federally registered charity in Canada, recently became the first CDN organization of its kind to accept bitcoins for donations after consulting with the club.

$1,500 is not too shabby for a first try!

(A final donation of $500 will be made soon by the Vancouver Bitcoin Co-op).

So there you have it! Welcome to the power of Bitcoin!

Good job, all!

When I leave Pensacola, FL, after conducting the first ever Thanksgiving at Satoshi Forest, dubbed Pilgrim Kālua, I'm heading to Las Vegas for the two-day Inside Bitcoins (West) conference to be the first to raise a million dollars for one cause, then have the lump sum transferred to an NPO's bank account via BitPay, their second such transaction this year.

The original goal was to be the first person instrumental in donating $1M USD to a non-profit, but that snake, Roger Ver,  Grin beat me to the punch on that one when he recently honored his bet and donated $1M USD to fee.org.

It's events like those stated in the OP that I truly enjoy, thus bringing further awareness to Bitcoin in their unique ways.
