Recover wallet.dat on win 8.1

Hey guys, recently I updated ton win 8.1  from 7 and a full format took place. I know there are a lot of posts on how to recover the wallet that have been backuped but I couldn't make it.

Is there is any other way to do it in win 8.1 ?
There is no such a directory "application data"

Where to put the btwall.dat file and what I have to do? I tried once to put it in C:\Program Files (x86)\Bitcoin but nothing happened.

PS: I redownloaded bitcoin v0.8.5 and waited more than a day to synchronize. Also I have my wallet backup ( in a .dat file) and the wallet's key

The wallet.dat goes to %APPDATA%\Bitcoin\.

Once there, you need to start bitcoin-qt with the flag -rescan.

(You can change the directory where the wallet.dat/blockchain/stuff is kept by adding -datadir=<Path to your directory of choice>. Make sure to move it first.)

OK I did what you said but I didn't see any difference. I had 1 transaction in 2013 but didn't appear. Also I had some coins in that didn't appear also.

What did I do wrong?

it appears you have a wallet.dat renamed as "btwall.dat". have you tried using that as your wallet file?

Just an update.  I upgraded to the latest bitcoin qt wallet and it totally fucked my wallet.dat file up.  So, I rolled it back.  When I tried to import the wallet I kept getting the wallet.dat file is corrupt error.  So, this is what I did.

While the new, empty, BTC core app is running, I copied my old files (including wallet.dat) into the C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin file.

Then, in the Bitcoin Core wallet I selected Settings-> Options-> Reset Options.  You'll be prompted that the application will shut down.

Restart the application (remember, all your new files should already be in there) and all your old setting will be in place when it starts (including encrypted password).

Hope this helps someone else somewhere.  I tried many other methods to include the CLI of the interface in bitcoin core.  Nothing else worked.  I thought I was screwed.  

A lesson learned.  (Hell, yes.  I'm deleting this junk off my computer when I get the coins transferred out.)

(Yes, I had a backup copy of the wallet.dat file, but it wasn't taking it saying it was corrupt)

You need folder : Appdata\roaming\bitcoin\  you put wallet.dat in it and it will work. If you have your private keys backed-up you can simply import them in blockchain.info wallet and delete all you have on PC ATM and than when you have your wallet back you can transfer your funds there.
