Let me make sure I'm mining correctly. I downloaded the client, then I let it sync. I went to the mining tab and hit Start Mining, and it says mining started. I'm mining at 1014 hashes per second. Am I doing everything correctly? Or do I need to edit some files somewhere?

You probably want to be mining in the pool bsspool.dyndns.org using CGMiner or if mining without a GPU, one of the many different CPU miners.
