The current way of running Nodes is just not sustainablesle. If nothing isdone about it  Nodes will be totally Centralized in 15—40yrs
I will continue to insist that people be paid to run Nodes so they can afford new storage devices as the Blockchain increases in size.  Again, Node runners should be able to afford new storages with profits they make from running nodes. This will also ensure that the number of people running full Nodes never shrink in the future.
"Invaders" think/plan long-term and are incredibly patient. We need to think & act this way too plus anticipate their every moves

 — Running Nodes can be made fulltime busines so we don't lose those with passion for Cryptocurrency to governments/corporations.

The reason for this post is because I saw someone repeating a letter  allegedly written by Satoshi supporting the Centralization of nodes in the future. Here:

I do not believe Satoshi wrote those words.

Who are you talking to? if there is any way to earn money by running nodes, what would be the point? invaders as you call them would be running nodes
And earn more money to be able to run more nodes, it could lead to the same problem.

As long as invaders are running Core nodes, there would be no problem for the network. as long as the network is following one code, you don't have
To change anything.

Storage isn't a problem. I've got three copies of the blockchain, and I run two nodes on notebooks over public Wifi. They aren't full time though, and I think people should be aware that they can have a 'proper' Bitcoin wallet by running a full node, pruned or otherwise, on a part time basis.

Both solutions Higher node loads with paid full-nodes (similar to Masternodes, i think) & lower node loads and rely on voluntary have flaws. Even with solution similar with masternodes, attacker simply could run more masternodes, even if they need to buy/steal coins needed to run masternodes Roll Eyes
But AFAIK majority of attack scenario require hard-fork/change protocol rules/high PoW amount which require lots of costs.

But storage isn't big problem on public permissionless blockchain, the bigger problems are :
1. Bandwitch to receive/send block and transaction
2. Computation power/time needed to verify block and transaction
3. Storage speed and RAM amount/speed
4. Ensuring normal bitcoiner can run full nodes without expensive device
5. There's delay/latency because time needed to receive, verify and broadcast all transaction/blocks
6. etc. (i forget few reasons)

Lightning network should provide this.
It will incentivise people to run their own nodes and open channels with their friends, earning money in the process.
