I know these cards are relatively new to the scene so there isn't much information about them. The hardware comparison wiki is incomplete and for some reason won't allow me to add my card... anyways.

I'm currently using An XFX r9 280x DD and getting a steady 716kh/s  i've managed to go a bit higher but am uncomfortable with the resulting temps, and most of us know how xfx likes to skimp on the vrm cooling.

I'm using Cgminer 3.5  with the following batch file,

cgminer.exe --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://miningpoolurl:3333 -u yourusername -p yourpassword -I 13 -g 2 -w 256 --thread-concurrency 8192 --gpu-powertune 20

This works for me for now, i might throw in another one eventually and come up with a better way to cool them.

currently sitting steady at 72c.

I'd be curious to see other peoples settings and hear any recommendations about mine..

hi, what is the stability of your card like? what os are you running on and which version of catalyst and amd sdk? i found this thread the other night https://litecointalk.org/index.php?topic=3648.0

i know it relates to the 7970 card but the driver version may have the same effect on the 280x

i have just purchased sapphire's version of this card, im just waiting for a couple of components before i can start experimenting

719kh/s seems pretty good to me though

Way back in 2010 when i was mining with a 5870 card, the best result was tuning down memory frequency and tuning up gpu freq.
At same temp it gave higher hashrate

As a newbie, how long will it take before you have mined 1 BTC with 716kh/s?
I know it will be long but how long?

I'm planning to setup a duo R9 290x.

It's stabe, been running strong for the past 4 days without a hiccup. windows 7 64 bit, catalyst 13.11 not sure about sdk.

That's true for bitcoin mining, right now i'm working on ltc and multipooling with middlecoin, where memory is more important.

I haven't done the math yet, i'm averaging $14 a day by mining alt coins and converting to btc

That's pretty good for a 280x, I have two sapphires that do 750kh/s, and 6 more that do ~715kh/s but with completely different settings. You may not need the +20 powertune though, I use -20 on all of mine.

Try adding this to your config

--lookup-gap 2 --gpu-engine 1080 --gpu-powertune -20

You can try running like my other cards, but if you get 700 now this probably won't do any better.

Please DO NOT send me private messages asking for help setting up GPU miners. I will not respond!!!

id say you will never be able to mine 1btc with 716kh/s if mining btc

which altcoins are you mining? prices seem so volatile i think im going to mine a few different types day to day, and trade as quickly as poss for btc/ltc

lol

well at *current* difficulty it would take about FOUR and a HALF YEARS!..

i'd say you'd possibly have better luck solo mining for that long and may hit the lotto and find one block and get the whole 25 coins! but not likely..

definitely use your GPU's for ALT coin mining.. even after the last two days big drop in BTC value you can still get roughly $10-$20 a day per Mh/s with GPU's on alt coins...even back at $2.50 a day that's still LIGHTYEARS ahead of what you would get mining BTC

Go look at www.seemybits.org. You may be able to get another 10KH out of your 280x by simply adjusting your thread-concurrency.
