How do you find out the hash rate from your computer, do you need to know the processor + graphics card models ?

You can guess it easily.
Computer with latest AMD graphics card that costed atleast $200. Hash rate: 500 mhashes/sec
Computer with latest NVIDIA or AMD equivelent of above from a year ago 100-200 mhashes/sec
Any laptop, or computer with gfx card from 2-3 years ago. below 100 mhashes.

Per graphics card of course. 600 mh/s is pretty good for gpu right now.

There is progams that you can download for free that will scan your computer and gives you a report of the specs on the machine that your using.  I I can't recall the exact name at the moment but I will post it here.

You can give us your config details and we can tell you the hash power.
Else start mining and you'd see the number of hashes in that window.

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison
This is a good site that shows the hashrate of gpu's and cpu's.

This is the basis for all hashrate calculation.

If you wish to mine sha256 algorithm based coins, calculate as MH/s - like bitcoin
If you wish to mine scrypt algorithm based coins, calculate as KH/s - like litecoin

For litecoin mining check: https://litecoin.info/Mining_hardware_comparison

For bitcoin mining check: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison

Note that bitcoin hashrate is about 1000x litecoin hashrate for comparable video cards.

Each hardware has its performance in hashrate. Depends on the algorithm you use for mining a particular coin. The base processor CPU has less performance / hashrate / than the graphics cards AMD or NVIDIA. There are coins that you can mining only through the cpu. For the processor, the more the cores, the larger the hashrate. Hashrate is different for different algorithms. Another is performance at algo quark, other at ethash and so on. On this page https://whattomine.com/, you have the opportunity to find out what hashrate your gpu card. You have to choose the option and the performance of your gpu will appear in the algorithm.
