If Bitfury (or any other) chips are $5 by January, you might have something to refill that thing with before long.

Wont get the same return as a larger denser unit, but it's the only real option for smaller miners other than hosting.

I would fill it up with 32GB thumb drives and configure a huge volume across all the sticks using LVM just because now... you can! Smiley

You could sell it now it's worth something, or you can wait till any/all of the 2GH/s drives drop in price (redfury/bluefury/nanofury)

By then 2GH/s is utterly useless. Undecided

333MH/s right now is also useless
49x333MH/s is not top-notch these days but still sort of viable.
49x2GH/s by that time might also be viable. Maybe not. Maybe it will. Nobody knows.

If 1x 2GH/s is not economically viable then 49x 2GH/s also isn't. Because gains may be 49 times higher, the costs are also 49 times higher. I think people with those USB mining farms are fooling themselves if they think they are going to break even. That was the case when the first USB Block Erupter was released and is the case now. It's maybe interesting as a hobby but not profitable from an economic point of view.

It is so very fashionable to trash talk about those adorable USB Blocker Erupters!

USBs aren't worthless junk until they don't cover their electricity costs.  And with BTC hovering at $1000+ range, there's a long time to go before that happens.

I started with a couple of .333GH sticks then bought more and more.  Now I have wacky assortment of other ASICs to go with my 70 sticks... 6 Bitfury USB sticks, 8 ASICMiner Blades, a BFL Single (2 more being delivered today), 11 Bitfury H Boards, a 3 module KNC and a 180GH BitMain AntMiner coming soon this week. Plus preorders for 2 BFL 600GH Monarchs and a KNC Neptune.

With that small arsenal of equipment I'm earning about $800 a day right now. You have to start somewhere!  And the cute little sticks are a great to get your feet wet.  And with an aggressive reinvestment strategy, anyone can grow their share of the network hashrate.  Besides, those buggers were virtually free a month ago.  Now they're going for $50 on eBay.

this item would be better then any usb stick made in the 49 port hub.

I would follow this thread.  see what they sell for and buy a few to run on your 49 port machine.

you could then decide to sell the 49 port   with a few sticks.  or buy more sticks

OP Sell that thing so that someone who appreciates it can have it. I've been accumlateing Block erupters over time. I've got about 130 of those little suckers and since May this year I've mined 22 Bitcoin. at today's exchange rate, i've actually made a profit. The whole time people have been saying don't do it, you'll never break even. And I've countered with that for me it is just a hobby, because it is. showing a profit is just a fringe benefit. Cheesy

What I didn't mention is that I reinvest virtually every Satoshi back into more equipment, lol.  But I suppose that has to end soon.  I'm running out of circuits!  Lol.

Why doesnt big brands use their super computers to mine all crypto currencies instantly.

Because Supercomputers aren't set up to do bitcoin type processing. basically the ASIC miners we have are the supercomputers for bitcoins. Bitcoin mining in general is too risky for mainstream businesses to involve themselves in.
