No one has missed the Bitcoin boat, buying now at $1000 will make you an early adopter in the years to come. Hardly anyone knows about Bitcoin yet.

Question: So is the sole purpose of Goldcoin to give people an ability to get on the "train" that they supposedly missed with Bitcoin and Litecoin?

Seems to be a really bad purpose to have a coin like this.

What is the mining algorithm of Goldcoin? I couldn't find this information.

Is it SHA-256? Scrypt?
