I am a newbie.  I really like the alternate coins like Feathercoin, Peercoin, etc., and of course I like Bitcoin as well.  I think I understand the basics of how it works though it gets complicated.  I'm interested in CPU mining for some alternate coins like Litecoin or something else like Peercoin, those sound very exciting to me.  What is a good miner for CPU for Windows or Linux?

Okay thanks, I'll do that.  In fact, I think I tried it out last night but it didn't work for some reason.  I'll retry.

h3m96, you should first decide on which coin(s) you want to mine for, then determine what is the best rig (CPU or GPU) that you can get within your budget.

I like mining YAC coin with CPU,You can use CPUMINER as your software for mining (I guess there are some tutorials in yacointalk forum).I doubt it will be profitable to mine BTC or even LTC with just CPU but I could be wrong.
