It is a breach of the social contract on which Bitcoin is built upon.  Bitcoin was built with certain promises in place, users voluntarily chose to use that system based on those promises.
If Bitcoin ever disregards output scripts then it's as broken as a calculator that sometimes says "2+2=5"

It's not a new feature, it's not a compromise, it's broken.

The lost coins part of this thread is not interesting and had been more than beat to death in more threads than I can count.

The interesting portion was the "who has control" questions, which I think was answered.
