Maybe Satoshi is european because the icon he used - see my avatar on the left - resembles a euro coin.
Someone from a different continent would probably not feel this connection and feel so much the bitcoin as the new Euro.

Well it more closely resembles the $, and did Satoshi come up with the symbol/logo? They might've come later.

Edit: Misread your post. Yeah, it does. It also looks a bit like a UK £2 coin.
