The fan on one of my Sapphire 5850s died with a screech. The card was immediately shut down and is apparently undamaged. I want to buy a NTK FD9238H12S fan assembly for a replacement (card is out of warranty/no receipt). Anyone know where to obtain this part in the US? Several 5xxx reference series GPUs use this fan, including the 5970 I believe.

try sending an email to sapphire to see if they can sell just the fan. and if they won't, the ask them if they're able to point you to their supplier

I've contacted Sapphire and they wanted to see the receipt for an RMA. I told them I just wanted to buy the fan assembly, not RMA the out-of-warranty GPU. So far no constructive response.

It might be cheaper to buy a broken 5000 series GPU of Ebay (with a compatible fan); I'd check it out at least.

i don't think that's a really good option. there are some broken 5850s on ebay for $50, but that's rather expensive for just a fan. just getting a new aftermarket cooler for ~$35 might be better, but that's still pretty pricey for a simple fan that should be ~$5

This is likely the solution I'll have to take in the end. I don't want to dick around waiting for Sapphire support while the card sits idle.

Yeah, a new cooler is probably cheaper; although I have seen reference coolers being sold as well, which might be cheaper yet.

Just had the same problem happen to one of my 5970s. I am wondering if you figured out where to buy it? I just contacted the card manufacturer and going to send an email to http://www.ntkltd.com to see if I get lucky with them.

Edit: There's another thread with links to where you can source them https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=46642.0
