Purchase of weak video cards.

Hello!
There is an opportunity to buy video cards with 1-2 GB of RAM.
Is there any point in putting them in the farm?

If you do not get coins on the algorithm of Ethash?

Depending on how much of these

you could still mine monero or cryptonote coins as an alternative

if you could get these GPU's on a very low price, and may have a month or 2 capital returns then why not

they could still make a little resale value later on when mining is not already profitable

Same as leonix said. Smallest RAM cards still can be used for a few coins, it should be cheaper than regular cards and of course less power consumption. Then you can go for it.

Yes it would still be worth as long you would able to get them on reasonable price + electricity cost in your place and the coins would be mined by gpu. There still some coins which can really be mined with these cards. Ive been trying to find also onto these things but seems like its already phased out into my place and i cant see reasonable price.

Depends on how much you purchase them for and what cards they are. Not all 2gb cards are weak, some can actually provide decent performance for what they cost. My two r7 260x actually perform quite good for the money I paid for them, using the Equihash algorithm.

you can try, why not. in fact, if you use the algorithm Equihash. I think that it is possible to receive from maps of 1-2 GB, for example, the purchase will be less expensive

You need to do the math.
Which exactly weak video cards we talking about? What the price and how much cost kWh for you?
Some cards has high comsumption and low hash rate and may result in loss of money.

Yikes. When I hear "weak" GPUs I assumed you were talking about R9 270X or a Radeon 7950 or so.

But those are really weak GPUs you got listed. The 6850 might do Monero however. But your speed will probably be like 300Hs or so.

I made the calculation.
A maximum of 4 similar and weak cards, you can earn about $ 30 per month.
If you collect a farm from these cards and invest another 300 dollars for the remaining components, then the payback will be 17 months.

Do not buy video cards with less than 6Gb of RAM for mining. Dag file only grows over time and maps will become unsuitable for mining.

Do not buy video cards with less than 6Gb of RAM for mining. Dag file only grows over time and maps will become unsuitable for mining.

DAG file growth only affects you when mining Ethash coins. Thankfully there are more coins than only Ethash ones, weaker cards are I think rather OK for Cryptonight

I think it doesn't worth currently. Even if you buy bulk it may be worthy but look thinga differently: Where are you going to sell those cards? No one wants used and old cards + consider the fact that 1-2 gb won't be enough soon.
If I were you, I would buy good cards in any way.

I think the only one suitable algorithm for such cards is criptonight, and to be more specific it is monero, because there are Asics working on the other coins, and you have to decide if it worth buying those cards after you will do comparing calculations of annual payback with RX 570 for example.

The GTX 750 card produces 263 hashes per second.
Of all the options, it is the most optimal.
But even 4-5 cards will barely give 30 dollars.
And this money will go to pay for electricity.

I was thinking of assembling a farm inexpensively to mine new coins.

Consider that in addition to electricity, a farm with weak cards occupies a useful area, requires additional cooling and your time for their maintenance.

If I had free electricity I would mine with every USB, 1GB gpu, 2GB gpu, celeron CPU, Xeon CPU... You get the idea.  If you are looking for cost analysis just run the miner on the gpu or look at various benchmarks for the type of cards you would be getting and then compare that with how much your electricity costs.

Again... if you have free electricity.  GO FOR IT!
