I have been reading from this forum previously and learning things and more.. I purchased Bitcoins when it was at 100usd/BTC, so i got 15 Bitcoins because i wanted to buy somethings online, before sending the payment i discovered the item seller was a scammer, so i never sent the bitcoins to him, i just left my coin in my pc waiting for someday i can spend it on something useful, time passed and i even forgot it was there, when my PC got infected with virus and i had to force format it only to notice weeks later that i done lost my BTC Wallet, and up goes the price, at this point 15 BTC can actually solve a whole bunch of problems i am having now for me but there it goes all lost and i find it hard to be myself knowing that if i got this 15 or less  bitcoins i can actually take my kids for a nice holiday..

Its bad i blame myself so that's why i am sharing, at least sharing helps ease your mind.. Done sharing with my wife coz she never understand what BTC is and how it works so i just talk to those who knows about it..

wow this sucks so much. I totally understand your situation and feel your pain. I would probably feel the exact same thing if I was in your situation. Think of it as a lesson for the future, always back up your data. Whether you have bitcoins or not, some file sitting on your PC will be useful some day in the future and taking 10 minutes to back up your data will always help.

Good luck with everything.

Sorry to hear your loss.
It is advised to encrypt and backup your wallet always.

Create new user account, first post 5 minutes later is sob story and donation address. Repeat.

For $15k of bitcoins, there's a very slim chance that data recover can pull a private key off a hard drive if it is taken out of service immediately.

Or use a wallet that uses deterministic key creation.
This way you only have to backup the seed once and can always recover all addresses.

e.g. Electrum

Actually i don't know much about Bitcoins, just reading always, i downloaded Multibit and purchased for the sole use of purchasing something online, so, besides downloading another multibit and having an address from it, i no nothing more.

Thanks though i will read more and check out Electrum.

Horrifying to loose coins like that. I have an encrypted wallet. And that is backed up to another computer in my house. And it is backed up to USB. And still I feel i could loose something... Huh  but I guess that is cause of my past working with Word Perfect 4 / 5 ... lost big parts of scripts when I did not save and it crashed again .. and again...

If you only formatted your hd and then reinstalled the operating system there is still possibility to get the wallet out (not necessarily overwritten yet). You could try with running Recuva from usb stick for example.

How long ago was this ?
If you didn't put the harddrive under heavy load theres actually a big chance you can recover something as small as a private key file !
I mean its 15$k, put in a little time Tongue

Another tip is to use anything but Windows when dealing with things that require security, correct me if I am wrong.

Worth trying to recover it. Unplug your HDD, attach to another PC and run some utility like testdisk or something. There is a chance the bits remained untouched and you will be able to recover it. There should be professional services who can do recovery in your area.

Tried that, got nothing.. I have done alot more nothing good came out of it, so i have decided its time to quit thinking about it and move on, will make services  that will benefit bitcoin users and myself too.. Working on some project..

SCRIPTS SCRIPTS--- I lost a bunch of them, i guess above 30GB, this was stressful, there are lots of project i got long time ago that dos not exist online anymore and i lost em too.. Crisis!!!. Its very bad i try to back up, i always feel i am not arranged properly, have 2 laptops and one desktop and i  they are not enough, about 10 pen drives with name tags on them, i am scared of getting  high HDD coz i feel putting everything in it might be a disaster.
