Digital money is not problem, CC, Paypal and many payment networks already have digital transactions, but no one is decentralized.

BTC right now is currently worth nearly $1000 exactly. Remember this post and come back in a year. I hope you don't regret it, but I'll bet money you will. Bitcoin can be daunting, but it's simple enough once you get used to it. I reckon it'll be worth persevering, but who knows?

I'm very close to backing out of this whole thing too (atleast until rapid, user-friendly, trustworthy Bitcoin services come online).

I've been too afraid to buy a single mBTC because of all the stories of hacking and scams I've read on here.

It's very daunting for sure, but if you read enough about wallets and security on here you'll have yourself covered pretty well.

The biggest obstacle for me has been getting USD in and out of the exchanges! I've never realized how hard, and how long it takes to move across the globe. I guess its one more benefit of BTC!

Then why not buy goods if you cannot exchange it to real currency?
Plenty of sites that offer goods.
Maby you can buy goods and sell them again for real money...

You only registered about 24 hours ago, maybe you should not give up so easily.  A list of your questions might be more useful than just an I'm out, this is too hard post.  Get a thin client wallet like electrum or an online wallet like blockchain.info and start to explore.

It's not so easy as us newcomers as we thought. We have to stay here for a while, get  to understand many things to have a chance in the future. To be able to get the most of this. Patience.

It's just a whole new system of things to understand. You learn one thing, then you learn another, start small, and work your way along. In the beginning, people didn't think anyone would buy anything off of the internet, there was a while where Amazon was in the balance, as a business, and look at it today? Cryptocurrency is just starting. There's no pressure to learn everything this instant. Do what you can, learn as you go, start small and work your way up. You'll be miles ahead of everyone, a couple years down the road.

A year and a half ago I said similar things. BTC is daunting, intimidating, complicated, and all for what, some digital currency that is worth $9 per coin?

Oh if only I'd have taken it seriously back then...

And what about a year and a half from now? Who knows where it will be.

What I've noticed in the short time that I've taken to crypto currencies is that there are a lot of people sharing their doom-and-gloom predictions and disappointing experiences, but it's mostly from people who I think have unrealistic expectations for what this all is. I'm reminded of the guy who sold off his LTC farm and coins just weeks before the price shot up. He blogged about "making a living" mining LTC. This isn't a quit-your-day-job sort of deal. This is a long-term experiment. It seems to me like the folks who end up quitting have very different (and often unrealistic) ideas about what BTC and other currencies should be today.

I attempted to purchase bitcoins when they were $2 for investment sake. Arranged to meet the guy at a coffee house and waited for him for 15m. Didnt see him and gave up thinking it was all too much of a hassle. I then read many negative viewpoints on the future of bitcoins. They FAR outweighed the positive ones. Now its the opposite!

I'd be retired for life now if I followed through with my initial plan. I just knew that they would go up to $100 one day. Never dreamed it would be a thousand. Either way, I regret many occassions where I gave up from my own negative thinking by allowing myself to be persuaded by others negative thinking. Not this time. I'll take all your coins. If I lose I'll move on and forget. The risk/ reward here is insane!

The whole process of obtaining bitcoins and storing them securely is very difficult for the average non-techie person. There are going to have to be some killer apps that make purchasing, using and storing bitcoin a whole lot easier before this thing goes mainstream. That is for sure.
