I read an article somewhere that claimed the founders of bitcoin estimate the price will, at some point, reach $42,000. Could this be possible in the foreseeable future/is there a limit to how much it can be worth?

To be honest, the article seemed rather sketchy. Let me see if I can't find it...

Yes, now because you asked, I will share the secret: bitcoin will rise to 42,000. It's actually 42,802, a number which is hardcoded cryptographyally in the first blocks ever mined. The message satoshi left.

Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless — like water. Now you put water in a cup, it becomes the cup; You put water into a bottle it becomes the bottle; You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.

I have read some quotes of Satoshi discussing the valuation with another guy though I can remember his name. In the discussion Satoshi acknowledged that if Bitcoin caught on, each Bitcoin would be worth millions. He never claimed that it would though.

take all of these numbers with a grain of salt. there are a lot of people that know more about me in finances (almost infinitely), but even those people have no idea... because they have nothing to base bitcoin on. no currency or commodity ever seen in the history of mankind has enough similar qualities to bitcoin.

Not founders but Winklewoss brothers, big investors. Anyway, saying such a precise numbers is just retarded. It might go to 500, 5000, 50000 but to use 42k is just plain marketing bullshit.

So less than 1% of the actual money in the economy.
