Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

2014, 2015 or never.
Casey Research in IS today recommended to liquidate all bitcoin positions
and buy gold instead. Time to buy more coins!

Gold is too heavy for e-wallets.

Today's crash is strange.

Showing similar trends to that in April.

May people are speculating that this is the shockwave of China limiting businesses uses of BTC but if you look at the charts, you find some strange activity.

Almost a 30 minute lag on gox.

This is abnormal and looks like an artificial crash.

Stay strong, the storm will pass.

Its logarithmic growth  ....... ....just add a zero every year.

1        2010
10       2011
100     2012
1000.  2013
10000  2014
100000 2015
100000000  ?   satoshi PAR usd
I believe in a few years a satoshi will be a dollar!

Drivers--  Demand, scarcity, destroyed bitcoins, lost keys, difficulty and massive new emerging markets......

I could see it getting to 10,000 this year but I don't know if it'll reach 100,000 by 2015. we will probably see some large crashes and minor ones with a high recovery rate after. I suspect a low possibility of 20,000 by 2015-20 but not a 10x growth. Especially with the prices rising relatively high, people will want them but not afford them, others will want to hold them to gain value but because of the greed "investors" will take into it they'll hold onto them and people won't be able to buy them because of the "what if they go up" logic which will bring them down and cause a panic of selling with the "I don't want to lose my money" panic logic then you'll have others gobble them back up at the fallen rate and people will covet them again.

i´m pretty sure that BTC will continue rising in long turn.
still everybody who is hoping that BTC will be 10k$ in next year is to optimistic. we are now in price level where 1000% per year would make whole BTC-community to "closed elite community" and result would be (if amount of user does not grow), that BTC has very limited fiat-background.
so here my opinion:
5500$ end of ´14
8500$ - 10000$ end of ´15
15k$ end of ´16

to speculate what happens after ´16 doesn´t have now any sense.

Enjoy your life!

I don't see why it couldn't reach $10,000 some day and I wouldn't be surprised if it happened in the near future.  Personally, I was surprised when the exchange rate stayed pretty stagnant hovering around $130 for quite a long time while the difficulty was skyrocketing.  Theoretically, I would think that as it becomes more difficult for people to mine bitcoins that as long as the demand for them stays high then the value of them should also rise.

I think so, the limited (small) number of BTC will will ensure this.
If a big online player ebay, amazon,  facebook etc use crypto currency it will help move things along nicely.

My prediction is for 2015. I don't see it happening in 2014. Although BTC went up from $15 to $1,000 (66 times) in 2013, I think the most realistic scenario would be to expect a 500-600% increase in 2014.

I think bitcoin will be replaced by better alt coins. EG more secure, faster etc.  Bitcoin is awesome but there are a lot of innovative new coins that are much better suited to commercial transactions.

Personally I hate waiting for confirmations with bitcoin.. it takes so damn long!
