Does BTC-e allow you to buy/sell BTC with USD, and do they maintain a USD account on their site that you can buy/sell on highs/lows to make some $?  If so, what other sites operate this way?  It seems like with coinbase, whenever you buy/sell BTC, they use your external banking accounts.

But note that their rate for buying USD using EUR sucks.

One could successfully make money just selling USD for EUR, withdrawing EUR then sending back USD. I've done it in the past.

Thanks, I skimmed through this, and you answered my main question - I CAN fund a btc-e account with bitcoins from my own wallet, instead of using fiat money.
I'll dig into the rest of your article when I have a moment.

I do have a follow up question though - if I fund with BTC & sell it on the exchange, what default currency am I paid in?

Up to you, they have separate markets for BTC/USD, BTC/EUR and BTC/RUR.
