i think it's only a matter of time before BTC hits $10k, the question is whether or not BTC will be overtaken by somthing else.

Unless there's something deeply wrong with it in its code or something like that, I don't see why it couldn't reach 10K. But if it does, it's gonna be much sooner than 2020. Something started on November, the 20th, I don't know what but all coins have started soaring and now that they have some momentum, the best/more original ones will keep increasing in value. There isn't even that many services using Bitcoin (not to mention altcoins) so when it's a fully-fledged currency, it can do much better than it does now. Bottomline : if Bitcoin ever reaches 10K, it's gonna be by the end of 2014 I think, not a long time after that.

I guess the most people talking, using this forum hope BTC go to 10K, right?
I think BTC will go over 10K, just like it unbelievably goes to 1K.

I think it has to take longer, 10x more value might mean 10x more time to go to this value. It would make sence to me

It will reach it if rich people keep putting lots of cash in - of course the problem is that they do not spend it either (long term investments) - which will defeat the use of bitcoin as a currency.

Bitcoin needs to be accepted by more retailers to make people spend the money and I think things will get better.

I see more retailers accepting Bitcoin since I started, so there will be many places to spend Bitcoins soon. Once people spend more instead of selling coins, Bitcoin price will increase

Might, might now. Depends, they say as long as people believe in it as a currency it will keep on growing, and be worth a lot because of the limits of how much there is!

I don't see it climbing fast enough to get 10k next year but some day maybe.
It will be interesting to see if this cryptocurrencies will actually survive.

I don't think that it will be near 10k for next 2 years. And i don't think that people will forget more "ordinary" currencies(like euro or dollar) in next 20 years. Also we still don't know who is Satoshi and he holds a pretty big amounts of bitcoin, and capable to drop the price really low, also as i know bitcoin is open source so there can't be any "coding" backdoors but who knows about algorithmic and mathematical backdoors. As far as i know it wasn't inspected this way, was it?

Bitcoin increased from $150 to $1200 in about one month. I would say this climb was very fast

It's all was due Chinese interest, and it's just another stage of bubble.

Mainly from Chinese, but not completly. Bitcoin is getting popular in Europe, many local Exchanges started this year in Europe

Only if it's linear. Now, look at this graph and tell me if it looks linear to you Smiley Maybe I'm being too optimistic, maybe getting from 1000$ to 10.000$ is much harder than from 1$ to 1000$ but I don't think so. What would make sense to me would be that the more people know Bitcoin the more people convey this news to other people and so on...

But by what? I think there is no optimal uberaltcoins, they all just variations of old good bitcoin or litecoin. I only remember one that have interesting possibility of "coins mining coins"

I don't think so. Wink
The Analytics from Bank of America (the second biggest bank in America) in their research report compare a Bitcoin currency to Gold. They appraise the real Bitcoin price on 1300 USD (so a 50% higher than today)
Here is orginal article: (in polish ;( ) http://bitcoin.pl/191-analitycy-bank-of-america-szacuja-uczciwa-wartosc-jednego-bitcoina-na-1300-i-porownuja-go-do-zlota
And here is the reoport: https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/885843-banks-research-report-on-bitcoin.html

You think it will be really 1300 USD?

Something like Ripple? I dont think so. It needs to be decentralized I believe (otherwise centralized banks and paypal would be enought)

I honestly can't see it reaching 10k ever. I think like most sites say it's like myspace or napster, it ushered in a new age but competition will come and wipe it out.

you're right, it'll most likely continue the current trend of ~80x increase per year, resulting in 1btc being worth over the entire world economy by 2017 or w/e
