You can't find 7950's right now, and if you can they are over $500 bucks a piece.

You are dead wrong on that, not even close. The 270x is identical to a 7870 and will only hash around 400kh...while the 280x is based off a 7970. There is no direct replacement for the 7950 in the R9 series. Go back to school and do you homework!

I don't know.  There are a lot of left over 7950's (used) that were being used to mine Bitcoins as recently as a few months ago.  I bought mine for about $200.

I would like to work on development of a polymorphic altcoin that maintains a stable value and is more resistant to fraud.

I'll offer $125 for the GPU's. The other hardware is overkill and the whole system is overpriced.

You can't find 7950's right now, and if you can they are over $500 bucks a piece.

Not intending to thread hijack here, but if this actually is the case I've got a Sapphire 7950 3GB DDR5 975mhz core 1300mhz memclock card that I'd be willing to sell. Especially if the price is in that sort of range  Smiley

The card is still under warranty, was purchased in march 2013 has mined, but never continuously for long periods, has also never been overclock and never ran hotter than 69*C

The 79xx series has been discontinued, and the supplies went dry, so yes it's true you can hardly find them.. but people are panic buying these cards when they don't need to. The R9 280X series is a rebadged/better 7970 going for $300msrp right now.

MSI 7950's (the best of the 7950) were going for $200ish until they went dry. No need for people to pay crazy prices for these right now.

Can you find me 12 in stock R9 280's? Looks like your best bet for those will be early January. Wonder what the difficulty will be then.

Meh, 7950's (280x's) are out there, not cheap, but not as expensive as you have them.

Bought From Yochdogx2, Alexmat, SgtSpike, David_Benz, Beaflag VonRathburg, Slaveindebt, Cptmooseinc, Coinhoarder

Uh yeah actually, there were 20+ of them over the weekend on Amazon.

Were.

Waiting on the next preorder email now. If yours were unopened, still in the plastic wrap, maybe you could get a slight premium. But definitely not opened.
