Hi,

I heard someone saying that number of merchants accepting Bitoins is not rising significantly. I personally feel this is not the case.

Is there any charts or data proving this point?

Thanks

I don't have a chart, but if I really wanted to know I would e-mail Shopify and Bitpay.

Well, Bitcoin Black Friday was a hit and a lot of new merchants joined, according to them. Also, BitPay (which most merchans use) had a lot more transaction to process last month.

News articles:
Black Friday set a record for Bitcoin commerce, Bitpay says
Over 400 Retailers Are Offering Deals On New “Bitcoin Black Friday” Website
All this is related to the Bitcoin Black Friday and new merchants can always stop accepting Bitcoin. So I have no idea how accurate this is.

Bitpay has 12,000+ merchants signed up right now

That number was 2100 in May when they raised funds

Like others have stated between BitPay and Shopify I think the numbers are growing very fast.  If you watch /r/bitcoin you will see tens of new businesses posting per day about how they now accept bitcoin.  I think one day soon your going to wake up and be able to pay with bitcoin almost everywhere.

Also -- through services like gyft you can already purchase things with bitcoin almost anywhere.

I've been keeping a record of the global BTC total at coinmap.org

It was 587 on the 7th November. This morning it was 1678.

Some time ago, a few of us tried charting the entries on the wiki page: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=35083.0

But over time, a) the wiki got cleaned up so counts were all over the place, and b) I suspect the page became less updated and relevant anyway, so not as much use any more.

Go with gut instinct, I reckon.
