I think you can check the number of total bitcoins currently existing using bitstamp, and blockchain.info but not sure about it. and the total market cap with the current price.

The market cap is pretty useless in my opinion, you cant sell all  12 mil BTC at 873$ each...

What use is a signature?

Lol... we passed the 1 billion mark when Bitcoin was $100 I think. The peak market cap was slightly less than $15 billion, which was achieved when BTC broke the $1,200 mark in Gox.

Even though the amount of Bitcoins in excistence is known, don't forget a lot of them have gotten lost due to wallets (and thus wallet.dat files) being lost/destroyed. It's a whole lot less than the 12,xxx mil.

There was another thread regarding the lost coins and it was calculated at some 5-6% of the current total. So the market cap can be slightly less, but not significantly so.

New dollar or euro is created everyday by banks as new loans are signed and destroyed as you repay. Not easy to count total amount of euro or dollar
