How do I set up a BitCoin Wallet? Or how do I set up other altCurrency wallets?

I'm really new to actually acting on my desires to exercise the currencies available to me. I understand who/where/why/when but I don't understand the what and how of the basics... I wish I would have thrown my hat into the ring when I girst learned about these currencies in the late 2012, but hindsight is 20/20. The most important part is would like to learn how to set up BTC wallets and other altCurreny wallets.  If anyone(s) would like to post a quick tutorial or show me towards some useful information I would be greatly obliged.
