So, this guy who had bought bought bitcoins from me wanted to buy more, so i got the email that payment was recieved from ebay so i sent. Then 3-5 minutes later I got another email from Paypal that said he payed with an E-check and payment was not confirmed and wouldn't be before Dec. 6.   Then i saw the funny part, his name was Bill Coleman (google it).
BUT, on th E-check his real name was William Trocki. So.. Should I be Worried?  What do I do?

Don't sell BTC for paypal/ebay. The only sure fire way to not get ripped off.

I would trust a e-check paypal transaction more than a credit card/debit card transaction through paypal, but I wouldn't trust paypal to begin with.

Please DO NOT send me private messages asking for help setting up GPU miners. I will not respond!!!

Yeah. I remember when somebody sent me an e-cheque on paypal years ago and it took ages to clear. Why couldn't he've just sent you the money via the regular paypal way? I'd stay well away from selling BTC or goods for Paypal. Far too easy for the seller to be scammed.

Uh, no. Coins don't move till a check clears.

Do what you will, but learn to trust instincts. If you can't tell this is a scam your detectors need fine tuning.

Tell him you'll cancel it, then he can send money another way, like western union or a bank transfer.

Please DO NOT send me private messages asking for help setting up GPU miners. I will not respond!!!

Personally if I was you I wouldn't send the coins and just cancel the cheque and the listing. Tell him you can't accept a cheque as you need the money instantly and/or you've already sold the coins.

Well, that's where the problem comes in, cause I didn't know he payed by E-check 5 min after i sent the BTC.. :/
What happened was that I got the fine confirmation mail from ebay, saying that I had recieved the payment. 5 Min after i got the paypal mail saying he payed by E-check, something that had never happened before.
Ofc I wouldn't had sent the coins until the money was there if i knew that he payed with E-check at the first point!

So.. I have sent the coins, maybe I get my money maybe not, I know his real name, living place, etcetc. What do I do? Go to America?!  lol Tongue

If and when the funds do clear, withdraw the money straight to your bank account and just hope for the best. Hopefully he wont be a scammer. Keep us updated.

You sure you know his real name, address, etc?  Or do you just know the name and address on a hacked PayPal account?

Hopefully you get lucky but trading with unknown/untrusted people using PayPal is stupid.  If you don't get robbed this time it is only a matter of time.

If the charge is disputed your PayPal balance will go negative.  PayPal will pull the funds back from your bank account, or send you to collections.  Even if they don't your account will be permanently suspended until you repay the negative balance.

This. However, I'm not sure if they can pull the money back directly from your bank, but they will give you a negative balance, and if you refuse to pay then eventually they will send out collections letters from a collection agency or whatnot. Hopefully you might be able to dispute it successfully though.

But if the Check doesn't bounce, how can the "scammer" be able to reclaim his money?
That doesn't make any sence at all?  'I payed for something using one of the "safest and best" payment methods in the world. Now I just press the reclaim button?'

Is it really how it works?  because I have taken screenshots and have saved all mails etc. that confirm that he got what he wanted and that I should now get mine!

What can I do about this??  Shocked

So, how can he "scam" me after the money is withdrawn to my bank account??

Yeah, they can do that. I have done some selling on eBay/PayPal in the past and they have become progressively worse. And I'm talking about regular goods I've sold, not bitcoin/cryptocurrency... from everything I've heard and read, they're even worse when it comes to any disputes regarding that. eBay/Paypal have shown repeatedly that they are all about the buyers and could give a crap less about the sellers.

Honestly, after my last few experiences with eBay and PayPal, I try not to deal with them at all, buying or selling, but especially selling. By the time I was done paying fees for both of them last time I sold a big ticket item, they took over 10%.... ridiculous in my book. To be honest, if I had the time, money and resources to create my own auction site and payment system, I would do it in a heart beat just to put those greedy bastards out. They might be #1 for an auction site and online payment platform right now, but that won't last much longer if they keep pissing their sellers off.

Like the guy before me said, you could always withdraw immediately (but if you really want to make sure the funds don't go anywhere, remove all bank account and credit card info from your paypal account as soon as the transaction clears your bank), but then if the dispute happens you will likely get sent to collections eventually.

Welcome to paypal. Firstly, you're not meant to sell cryptos on ebay or pp as it's against their terms. Secondly, they probably wont check or care if you sent the coins or not, and thirdly a scammer can get his funds back two ways: A) he says he didnt authorise the payment and gets his money back via paypal or his creditcard company can do a chargeback; B) He can also say you never sent the coins to him, or to somebody else’s wallet and file a claim. Just read around this forum and you'll find hundreds of horror stories.

He claims he never received the goods.
He claims he never made this purchase a hacker used his account without his permission.
In reality a hacker DID use his account and you never talked to the account holder only someone who brute forced his secure password (sex123 or something stupid like that).

PayPal won't look at any "proof you have" they will rubber stamp a chargeback.  If PayPal does uphold the dispute in your favor he can report it to his bank that the ACH ("e-check" is an ACH) was unauthorized.  He has 30 days to do that and the bank will rubber stamp the reversal.  Bank take the funds from PayPal, PayPal takes the funds from you.

Hopefully you get lucky, if you keep doing stupid things though eventually you luck will run out and you will get burned.

e-check means they don't have money in their paypal..

they probably have hacked or created a new paypal account and using a different debitcard... (e-check) where paypal will pull money from bank and send it to you...

that is a very big red flag...

because the real owner of the bank can just dispute via bank and paypal will grant it automatically without even saying anything...

This is why I haven't sold anything on ebay in over a year and hopefully won't again, unless they sort themselves out. And still, I'd rather just deal in cryptos now any way. The fees on ebay are ridiculous. It's hardly worth selling stuff half of the time, and then you have to deal with scammers saying they never received the package and getting their money back etc.

Feathercoin has a marketplace that is free to list and there's no final value fees, except for a 1% escrow fee: https://market.feathercoin.com/index.php

Localbitcoins or on the forums here, just use a trusted escrow and don't use Paypal. Or use exchanges, but they can be a faf setting up with ID and shit needed.
