For starters, seeing as you are not doing your own research and probably not earning maximum profits, you could start with simple mining calculators like:

1. whattomine.com
2. cryptunint.com
3. nicehash.com/profit-calculator

As you learn more about mining, you will learn how to use google, search these forums, and read news to find out what is most profitable.

these are the basics, learn from these

time goes by, you may want to dig deeper and deeper and would want to be ahead of other miners

First of all, you should know what makes a coin to be the most profitable than other, the things that used as count variable for coin profitabilities. This is that few things:

Network Hashrate,
Difficulty,
Coin prices,
and
a few secret things that you will only find it with do it your self.  Wink

You can use public's information related to coins, such as Whattomine, Coinwarz, etc. as your reference. But do your own calculation for the final decision, cause public's information (coins rank/profitability) accessed and used by a lot of people.

There are many cryptos that suddenly change their price and it may be interesting to start mining them, but how is it possible to know? What methods do you use to know it?

It's as much a personal preference as a "what's the most profitable" when deciding which coin to mine.
One of the main factors I have to consider is power consumption as my electricity cost are quite high.
So I mine Cryptonight coins as they take about 25%-30% less power (and so more profit) to run than Ethash coins do.

Aha..that's good!  Wink

Power consumption, it was another factor of profitability. And it could be one of profitabilities variable that must be counted, in the end, power consumption and electricity cost was on miners side. It would be different for each miner.

The best coins to mine are ones you will not find on whattomine etc, you would have to look yourself, or everyone would just jump on the most profitable coin, making it non-profitable anymore.

With experience comes wisdom, which hopefully helps you determine what is a good coin to mine.

You can use some of the websites the guys posted here to determine which coin is more profitable right now but you can also go about mining something that has a lot of potential and is very easy to mine now and keep it.

If you were right in selecting the coin, you'll see the price increase and get more out of it in the end.

You can go to some professional mining sites to test your power. Usually, learning mining needs to join a number of professional telegraph teams, and many people will help you with the telegraph team.
