This is a very common trnend where people spend a whole lot of money just to get married but I don’t think that this should be the norm. Most people borrow money to have a lavish wedding and it’s mostly the bride that convinces the groom to do that.

I never agree to this type of tradition. Marriage depend on the capability of the couple. A simple marriage is not so bad and this will not determine the relationship of the couple. There is no need to spend your entire fortune just to get married and get poor paying the debts afterwards. I think that the family of both parties are being selfish and what they only care about is what other people will say about the marriage. Marriage should be sacred and sincere, not extravagant or expensive.

That shouldn't be the case. There is much to do and spend after marriage. An average man who spends a lot at the beginning of marriage might lose a lot.
What then will be used for housekeeping at the beginning of the marriage if all has been spent. If most are not getting married, then fornication will be on the rise, causing abortion to increase as well.

Getting married has become on of the most difficult tasks to accomplish recently because the demand for money to marry continues to increase periodically. What you're saying is also same in my culture/country. The man will pay the 'bride price' and also would need to be very stable (house-preferably, car-preferably, well-paying job- mandatory) and so much more.

You can go to Paris or America to look for work and look for your future wife there marriage depends on how the of you decided and how your life will be, if you can find your partners because of money then try to be in other places, there you may find your true love and you'll get married when the of you have enough budget to spend on your marriage.

Yeah... India would be a good option, as there is a good demand for fair-skinned grooms in all parts of India. But the language barrier will be a problem, and we should not forget the fact that there is a shortage of brides in India as well (especially in states such as Haryana and Punjab).

I feel for you man, I do not know enough about Chinese culture so I can't say much, in my country, it's all about finding the right woman and the costs must be paid by both parties, I wish you can find a woman like that someday and you both can live happily together, working hard and suffering together, I believe that's all that love is about. I respect Chinese culture a lot but I believe sometimes they overwork the men too much, but I also don't know where is fine changing or not... Anyway, good luck!

If you are free people in China or anywhere in the world, get married by agreement. If the man and the woman make the agreement to be married, they are married. To make it formal, write it down on paper, and sign it in front of witnesses. If you don't know how to read and write, then put your thumb prints on the document. File the signed document in some publicly available place so that people can go and look to see that you made the agreement.

The real marriage comes about by agreement.

Hahaha... if you spend $1 million, then you can get at least 100 women. There are a lot of impoverished areas in India and if you could spend $5000 or $10,000 on the family, then they will happily marry-off the daughter to you. But I really doubt whether Chinese men require to pay money to get married in India. Like I said earlier, fair skinned grooms are in huge demand and normally the brides need to pay a dowry for marriage.

I do not know whether such marriage is a tradition or indeed as a rule in your country. I am grateful that my country is not. Every citizen has its own way according to religion and belief. My country is multi-faith and all are recognized by state regulations, and on average they do not incriminate any party to marry.

Great topic for myself because a few days ago I was reading about the history of infanticide throughout human cultures https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infanticide and in the China section it shows  that there are 120 males per 100 females.



In some culture having a boy is more prestigious, and that drove me nuts because it's setting up the boy population for frustration, having to fight harder for female.

By getting rid of girls, they are actually giving the surviving girls more power, because landing one becomes harder. Kind of reminds me of crypto, and value.

This is quite a funny thread. Sadly, the original post is not funny at all. When I visited China I heard about many of this problems. It seems like the OP has great English. This should be a good thing. I think it may be better to look outside of China. There are actually many countries that have more women than men. You can check this website: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_sex_ratio. Russia and Ukraine, for example, have much more women than men. It may be difficult to get them to go live in China, but it's certainly possible. Many Russians already live in China. They won't expect so much money.

O.M.G i didin't know this was what you have to pass through in China before you can get married. I know this is a great law to abide but trust me most folks cannot afford the pricing you have to go through before. Marriage bride price has to be made flexible so that each and everyone can afford this . This would increase high rate of singles in the country.  Men won't be able to live with their gilrfriends until it turns to marriage. Switching from one girlfriend to the other would be a behavior. I hope something can be done about this.
